I’m the only person in the j-school at the moment. Creepy. You’d never imagine a week ago this place was INSANE with activity.
I’m in the midst of trying to sublet my place for four months while I go off to Toronto to work (and be merry, although the “merry” part will be in short supply due to, um, the need to save), and let me tell you: it sucks. I kid you not; subletting a rented unit in Halifax is a lot like winning the lottery. The odds are terrible. Even when you price below market value (yay cheap, cheap Haligonians!), people still hold off on the principle that “well, some sucker is gonna become desperate enough to go another $100 less, so I’ll wait…”
On the plus side, I sold all my furniture today, so that’s good. Fully furnished no more.
The part that really stinks is that I can’t actually leave here until something has been set. I could (read: this option is not a good one) leave, bite the buckshot and pay what I owe on my lease out of pocket, but that’s really NOT a good idea. I’d prefer to sublet for obvious reasons, but considering this market, we’ll have to see what happens.
