CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS: One of the modern world’s erudite and prolific writers, Hitchens, is a kind of intellectual hero for me. Sure, I don’t agree with his support of the Iraq war or the neo-conservative agenda post 9-11, but Hitchens is a remarkable writer. Here’s a link to a new article on him and his writings.
One of the best things he’s written is a book called Why Orwell Matters. Released a few years ago, this book follows much of Orwell’s traditions on language, politics and media. I strongly recommend it.
TERROR ONLINE: This article talks about Al-Qaida’s retreat from the real world to the Internet as its primary base of operations. I wrote about this last year; it’s remarkably easy for terrorists to communicate online because of the web’s relative anonymity and easy access.
